End of deer list: 10 moments and milestones that defined the Milwaukee Bucks’ 2018
The Bucks’ Christmas Day return
Yes, our last milestone isn’t even a week old, but the Bucks’ return to the NBA’s signature Christmas Day slate bears a significant checkpoint in their recent trajectory as a franchise.
After all, it had been 41 years since the last time the Bucks took part in the holiday slate prior to last week, as my fellow co-site expert Adam McGee delved deep into in his piece on the Bucks’ Christmas Day history.
To say that would be an extended layoff would be an understatement and although the Bucks’ play since the turn of the 21st century didn’t help that cause, it’s shocking to know that arguably the greatest period of the franchise’s history throughout the late 1970’s and all throughout the 1980’s didn’t get a share of the Christmas limelight for at least one occasion.
Of course, those Bucks teams, for how successful, innovative and well constructed they were during that span, didn’t have a player of Giannis Antetokounmpo’s superstar caliber, whose presence certainly drove home why they made their illustrious return to Christmas Day action this season.
The Bucks made their long-awaited Christmas return a worthwhile one as they took care of business against the lowly New York Knicks, winning 109-95.
But beyond the winning result, the mere inclusion represents yet another high mark in their steady, ongoing rejuvenation as an organization, of which Antetokounmpo is obviously at the forefront. It seems safe to say that it won’t take another 41 years for the Bucks to make their return to the Christmas Day slate.
With that look down memory lane complete, we’ll have to wait and see what’s in store for the Milwaukee Bucks throughout 2019. Have a happy and healthy new year, everyone!
