Three-point field day

With the Bucks utilizing a zone defense throughout the majority of the game, the Thunder were more than willing to launch away from three-point range.

Down their most adept marksman in Paul George for the night, the Thunder poured it on the Bucks by connecting on 23 of their 54 tries from long distance. Per ESPN’s Royce Young, the 23 made triples stands as single game franchise record for the Thunder, if you were wondering the historical context.

Veteran guard Dennis Schröder put on a shooting display in particular, and in front of his old coach, as he put down eight of his 15 three-point attempts throughout the night, all career-highs for the Thunder backup.

It’s important to note that the Thunder entered the night 22nd in terms of team three-point percentage for the season and despite their long-standing shooting deficiencies, they certainly didn’t look the part.

Of course, that comes with plenty of grains of salt, considering the Bucks were resting nearly half of their healthy players at the moment. Whether head coach Mike Budenholzer and his staff elect to play zone defense with his best players on the floor, even on a very limited basis or small stretches, throughout the playoffs will be interesting to see.
