Milwaukee Bucks: Revisiting bold preseason predictions
By Robby Cowles
Christian Wood
Preseason prediction: Will earn a roster spot (and have at least one poster dunk)
Verdict: You betcha
Throughout training camp and the preseason, one of the big storylines was surrounding Christian Wood, the UNLV big man who had shown out at Summer League for the Bucks and was looking to crack the roster.
With his length, athleticism and penchant for dunking whenever he was within reach of the rim, I was a big believer in Wood. But with the Bucks loaded when it came to big men already with Lopez, Maker, Ilyasova and Henson, it wasn’t guaranteed Wood could make the team.
The Bucks saw the potential that I, and many other fans, saw in Wood and agreed to a contract with him in September and he ended up making the opening day roster in October.
Throughout the season, Wood mostly played for the Wisconsin Herd G-League team, but still was active for numerous Bucks games despite not actually playing.
Also, as I predicted, Wood took advantage of the few minutes he got to throw down some nasty dunks.
Unfortunately, due to injuries to the backcourt, the Bucks had to waive Wood in order to sign Tim Frazier. A shame, but I hope Wood carves himself out a career in the NBA, he deserves it.
Running tally: 4/13, 1 push
