Milwaukee Bucks: Revisiting bold preseason predictions
By Robby Cowles
Brook Lopez
Preseason prediction: Will average more three-point attempts per game than two-point attempts
Verdict: Correct! (Finally!)
Thank you, Brook Lopez, for making me look smart and like an actual basketball expert who knows things by absolutely raining down threes this season. I know you did it strictly for my benefit.
If anyone has embodied the “Let it Fly” philosophy of the 2018-19 Milwaukee Bucks, it is the man they call “Splash Mountain”.
Before this season, the most three-point attempts per game that Lopez averaged in a season was 5.2, but that was in a season when he averaged 15.6 field goals overall.
This season, Lopez easily broke that mark by averaging 6.3 three-pointers on 9.7 total field goal attempts per game. That equates to Lopez shooting nearly twice as many threes as twos.
Bucks fans have been talking about this all season, but that is pretty insane for a 7’2″ center! I predicted this kind of thing could happen but even I didn’t think it would be to this degree.
Lopez’s 3PAr is 65 percent, up from 41 percent the previous year.
Lopez’s value to the Bucks on both offense and defense cannot be understated as he’s rejuvenated his career as the largest sharpshooter in the league.
Most importantly, though, he made me look like I knew what I was talking about.
Running tally: 1/5, 1 push
