Break dancing

As mentioned earlier, the Bucks have made a point to exploit the Raptors’ weaknesses as a team to their advantage. It’s one thing to do that to the degree that they’re doing it, whether on the glass, letting disinterested shooters fire away from deep to limited success, etc., but the Bucks’ thoroughly sound strategy has been crucial to their two wins so far this series.

It’s safe to add the Bucks’ pushing of the pace and ability to score as well as defend in transition among the dominating facets to their play this series.

This comes off the heels of Game 2 where the Bucks finished with 28 fast break points, which is the most they’ve scored in a single game in the playoffs. It was a repeat performance of their productive play in transition in Game 1 as they tallied 25 fast break points.

Meanwhile, Milwaukee has limited the Raptors to just 34 points on the break across the two tilts in the series so far, a step down from their prowess in the regular season as they were the most efficient transition team, per NBA.com/stats.

Of course, the Raptors have come up against the team that prized getting back in transition and defended their opponents in that area of the game better than anyone else in the league during the year, though the Bucks have shown some slippage during the postseason.

That end-to-end dominance in the open floor is huge to smothering the Raptors and preventing them from getting into a rhythm on either end of the floor. And that will have to continue if the Bucks are looking to keep up the strong statement they are making with their control of the series to this point.

Game 3 between the Bucks and the Raptors is slated to tip off at 6 p.m. central time Sunday night at Scotiabank Arena.
