The best of Hill

Hill’s offensive efforts certainly came to the fore for the Bucks over the duration of their postseason run, but in truth he suffered from a general inconsistency on that end of the floor throughout his 47 regular season games with Milwaukee.

On the defensive end, it was an entirely different story for Hill, though. Hill’s long arms, high IQ, and veteran know-how combined to make him a defensive terror on a nightly basis.

Even with the context of a Bucks’ defense that finished as the league’s best in terms of points allowed per 100 possessions, Hill’s impact stands out.

Hill was the only Buck to play over 40 games and finish the season with a sub-100 defensive rating, as the Bucks allowed just 98.3 points per 100 possessions with the veteran guard on the floor.

Even facing the challenge of playoff competition, Hill’s individual defensive contributions remained superb as he posted a defensive rating of 100.1 during that stretch.

Those contributions are all the more impressive considering Hill’s role coming off the bench, as he wasn’t always afforded the luxury of sharing the floor with Milwaukee’s best defensive players and often was tasked with being the tone-setter on that end for second unit heavy lineups.

On offense, when Hill did find his best form, everything would seemingly fall into place. Still, the key determining factor came down to his aggressiveness in getting to the rim. When Hill embraced the challenge by himself, it often led to easy points, either at the rim or the free throw line.
