Weaknesses
The biggest question facing Fernando as he’s making the jump to the NBA is fine turning his fundamentals.
There’s no question the 20-year-old possesses the athletic and physical qualities necessary to thrive as a modern-day center, but his reading of the game, especially defensively, will have to continue to smooth out, despite his high shot blocking numbers.
The same could certainly be said for his offensive role as Fernando’s high turnover count (3.7 turnovers per 40 minutes this season) comes as a result of struggling under pressure with the ball in his hands, whether that’s loading up when looking to throw down a vicious dunk or operating out of the post.
And the biggest question regarding his skills will be whether he can space the floor to a passable level, at the very least.
Fernando’s free throw efficiency presents some optimism in that regard as he hit 76.3 percent of his 241 total free throw attempts as does his burgeoning mid-range game, but he went 4-of-13 from the college three-point line over his two seasons in College Park (30.8 percent).
