The worst of Middleton

The chances are that if you’re a Bucks fan reading this you know exactly the direction this particular section of the article is going to head in.

For as good as Middleton is at his best, there are a significant number of games where he falls below the level that the kind of supporting stars associated with genuine contenders usually obtain.

Middleton failed to hit the 20-point mark in 46 of his 77 regular season outings this season, and although that doesn’t come close to offering up the full picture and may often undersell his contributions in various other areas, there are nights where that very simplistic summation of his contributions can prove to be telling.

Both in-game and across stretches of the season, Middleton has become increasingly streaky as his career has gone on and he’s graduated from 3-and-D role player to a more featured element of everything the Bucks do.

More often than not, Middleton is a steadying presence that allows the Bucks to be at their best, but there can be no disputing that there are also moments where they need just a little more from him, and yet he’s unable to move up that extra gear.
