Weaknesses

The biggest deficiency standing in Dort’s game upon making the jump to the next level is the lack of a consistent shooting stroke.

Dort certainly put up triples at a high volume throughout his freshman campaign as he attempted 5.2 three-point tries per game (176 total), but the combination of his inadequate three-point percentage and his 70.0 free throw percentage brings up questions about whether his rainbow shooting release can be refined over time.

The same certainly rings true about his touch and more importantly, his decision making, when driving towards the rim. Dort’s rather rigid finishing and penchant for penetrating through close quarters in the paint led to him converting 53.2 percent of his 206 attempts within the restricted area this year, per Will Schreefer’s shot chart tool at The Stepien.

The former Sun Devil could also stand to improve his playmaking and reading of when to make the right passes to teammates as he registered a 0.79 assist-to-turnover ratio during his lone year in Tempe.
