Carsen Edwards

Standing at just 6’0″ tall, Carsen Edwards may be the closest thing to a traditional point guard still available when decision time arrives for the Bucks.

Far from the classic pass-first point guard, Edwards does at least follow the lineage of undersized and dynamic guard scorers. His eventual role may well see him come off the bench as a Sixth Man, and if you’ve read anything at all about Edwards, you’ve almost certainly come across the obvious comparisons to Lou Williams as a result.

In theory, the chance to get a Williams-esque scorer at No. 30 is great, too. The question is how much of that will hold up for Edwards, as there’s a reason why a bench scorer of Williams’ caliber doesn’t come along all that often. Also worth mentioning is the fact Edwards is already 21, leaving questions as to how much he’s likely to improve on some of the weaker elements of his game.

Edwards certainly doesn’t have the feel for playmaking to place him in Williams’ company just yet, and even with an encouraging 6’6″ wingspan he’s likely to be a notable negative on the defensive end as a pro. Still, if the Bucks believe that Edwards’ taste for the big moment and comfort in creating shots for himself can translate, he may well factor into their thinking.
