Ty Jerome

In spite of turning 22 in less than a month, Ty Jerome’s game seems tailor-made to so much of the modern NBA that there’s every chance he could be long off the board by the time the Bucks pick up the phone at 30. In fact, once frequently mocked in Milwaukee’s range, of late there seems to be a greater sense that Jerome is inching his way closer to the 20th pick than the 30th.

On top of being a key cog in Virginia’s national championship success, and boasting a reputation as a great teammate and a hard worker, Jerome possesses a heady mix of basketball intelligence, feel for the game and, more generally, skill.

Jerome shot just under 40 percent from deep for the entirety of his three-year stay with the Cavaliers, and is capable of knocking down catch-and-shoot looks or high-difficulty attempts on the move. His motion is also smooth and repeatable, giving plenty of reason to believe it will hold up at the next level.

Add to that, Jerome’s impressive passing ability, competitive nature, and solid size for a combo guard, and even his short wingspan and lack of athleticism seem unlikely to detract from his stock. The Bucks face the prospect of dishing out a major pay day to retain Malcolm Brogdon this summer, and it’s worth noting that beyond coming up under Tony Bennett, Jerome shares many similarities with the former Rookie of the Year.
