NBA Draft 2019 Prospect Watch: Grant Williams
Weaknesses
The biggest question surrounding Williams in order to unlock his skill set at the next level revolves around his range shooting.
Over his three years in Knoxville, Williams managed to connect on 29.1 percent of his 103 three-point attempts. The encouraging aspect is that Williams’ free throw efficiency improved year over year over his three seasons, to the point where he finished his time at Tennessee hitting 75.8 percent of his total 661 free throws.
But it may simply come down to Williams showing more confidence and having a willingness to let it fly on a regular basis.
Secondly, some of Williams’ physical tools, between his length (6’9″ wingspan) and lack of vertical athleticism, may hamper any and all defensive roles he takes on in the NBA. Surely, the intangibles and intelligence Williams possesses can easily override those concerns, but facing up against the wrong matchup could illuminate those worries.
