Fit with the Bucks
Ah, we finally approach the million-dollar question, one that could certainly be in play, considering the smoke that’s been surrounding Bol’s draft stock for the majority of the pre-draft process.
With Bol seemingly poised to go from anywhere from in the lottery to potentially falling late in the first round, the Bucks may be forced to ponder whether they should select the former Duck.
As much as that may illicit groans from some Bucks fan circles, it’s hard to deny that Bol’s skill set overlaps with what the team has asked of centers under head coach Mike Budenholzer, especially offensively. And while Bol’s defensive services are far from polished or even impactful, the raw physical tools that he possesses are too hard to ignore and can be harnessed correctly in the right situation.
The problem, of course, is that there’s no guarantee that Bol ever figures it out and even more concerning is whether he sees the court enough to shape his game, given his health and durability concerns. The same goes for the questions over Bol’s reported work ethic and whether he will put in the work to develop out his frame and build up his skill set from the raw baseline he currently possesses.
Those worries are certainly plenty and each one of them are not insignificant and it wouldn’t be that surprising to see Bol slip out of the first round completely if teams are reluctant to take on Bol and the mounting baggage he brings.
The range of outcomes revolving around what kind of player Bol becomes are so incredibly vast at this point and at some point, that will entice a team to select him. It would be tough to see the Bucks be that team, but there’s an outline for why Milwaukee may be the best landing spot to unlock his enormous NBA potential.
