Dallas Mavericks

As the Dallas Mavericks look to transition to the post-Dirk Nowitzki era, Middleton jumps out as one of the most obvious ways in which they could jump-start an already promising young team this summer.

With Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis in place as totem pieces, the Mavericks’ focus has understandably shifted to landing an elite wing who can offer the perfect complement to that talented duo.

Back in April, Marc Stein of the New York Times reported that Middleton represented one of the Mavericks’ top free agency targets, alongside Kemba Walker:

"“League sources say that the Mavericks intend to fling themselves into the chase for Khris Middleton and/or Kemba Walker with gusto in hopes that they have a shot at one of them.”"

Dallas’ desire to land Middleton is unlikely to have dampened in the time since, but according to Mike Fisher of 247 Sports, their confidence in being able to lure him away from the Bucks has taken a major hit.

Still, if there are any unexpected snags in negotiations between Milwaukee and Middleton, there’s unlikely to be any franchise more ready to pounce than the Mavericks.
