D.J.’s disappointing debut

After sitting out the team’s first two games with a hamstring injury, D.J. Wilson took to the floor to make his 2019 Summer League debut on Monday night.

Perhaps some niggling after effects of that hamstring issue were still in play, or maybe it could be attributed to rust, but much like his teammate and draft mate Sterling Brown, Wilson was far from at his best against the Timberwolves.

Logging 20 minutes of action, Wilson knocked down just one shot, a triple, and more generally failed to leave his mark on the game outside of that.

Overall, Wilson had to settle for a 1-of-8 showing from the field, with just two rebounds and a block to go with it elsewhere in the box score.

It’s worth noting that Summer League struggles are somewhat par for the course for Wilson, much like how he hasn’t always necessarily excelled at the G League level. Wilson’s game is arguably best suited to a more complementary role around better players, such as the one he got to play in following his breakthrough last season.

Considering he missed the first two games in Vegas, a chance to get more playing time over the next few games may well be welcome for D.J.

The Bucks will be back in action on Wednesday night when they take on the Chinese National Team.
