A family affair

The Bucks didn’t sport the same kind of firepower in their win over the Bulls that many will expect them to have when the season starts. However, that didn’t dismay both Brook Lopez and Robin Lopez from powering the Bucks during their respective runs on the floor Monday night.

Playing alongside one another for the very first time since their days at Stanford University, the Lopez twins made up for lost time by displaying the same kind of chemistry they shared when they were teammates in college.

That certainly showed on the defensive side of the ball as they provided plenty of cover in front of the basket and it was Robin who was particularly strong in protecting the rim, as evidenced by his three blocks on the night. Collectively, the Lopezes combined for four of the Bucks’ nine blocks in the win.

Offensively, their interplay, which through a little more cramped spacing than one would like, led to positive returns, such as their collective run throughout the second quarter. It was during that run when Robin buried the first of what will hopefully be many more triples this season as he rewires himself to the let it fly mentality under Budenholzer and co.

All in all, Brook finished with 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field (3-of-6 from deep, 2-of-2 from the line), five rebounds, three assists as well as three turnovers, a steal and a block in just over 18 and a half minutes. Meanwhile, Robin tied the team-high with 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting (1-of-3 from beyond the arc, 1-of-1 from the line), five rebounds, three blocks, a turnover in nearly 19 minutes on the floor.

While it may have been the preseason, the banter between the twin brothers was in midseason form after the game as Robin took issue with the tea celebration that Brook mimicked from Robin after hitting one of his three triples on the night.

Yeah, this is going to be a fun year.
