Digging in defensively

Through the Bucks’ first three games of their 2019-20 campaign, they haven’t exactly fired on all cylinders. And it’s been their play on the defensive side of the ball that has left a lot to be desired by Bucks players, coaches and fans alike after 59 fouls in their first two tilts.

There were certainly improvements made on that end of the floor, in terms of the discipline the Bucks showed throughout their 129-112 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers Monday night.

But with all apologies to the Cavaliers, the Celtics’ firepower far surpasses the amount of proven threats Cleveland sports on their roster and from that lens, that will require the Bucks to be a more cohesive, imposing defensive unit Wednesday night.

It’s Kemba Walker, in particular, that figures to be a player to watch for, considering he’s given the Bucks plenty of problems in the past and profiles as the kind of shifty, multi-dimensional ball handler that historically breaks open Milwaukee’s defense.

Whether he shakes off the early rust he’s had to start the season is another question entirely, but the Bucks’ defense will be closely examined as the Celtics look to knock off the Eastern Conference runners-up from last year.
