Living under Detroit’s skin

Wednesday’s win over the Pistons offered up an interesting glimpse of a phenomenon that could become increasingly common for the Bucks if they continue to be one of the NBA’s most dominant forces.

With their defeat to the Bucks on this occasion, the Pistons have now lost 10 straight games to Milwaukee since Mike Budenholzer took charge at the start of the last season, and they played with the energy of a team that has grown particularly tired of being on the losing side in these matchups.

Blake Griffin played with an edge that would have been much more impressive if his performance level wasn’t quite so poor. As Griffin embarked on a 4-of-17 shooting performance, he appeared to try everything he could to get into Antetokounmpo’s head or provide an extra bit of physicality.

In the end, he just spurred Giannis on to make an individual run that essentially sealed the win for the Bucks.

An inability to beat the Bucks at basketball will lead teams to search for other avenues where they could get an advantage. Following the Pistons’ lead in terms of physicality certainly doesn’t seem to be the answer, although I’ve no doubt that many more teams will try.
