Some respite for Wes

It’s been a rough recent run for Wesley Matthews in a first season with the Bucks that has been up and down in terms of his personal performance levels, but the final few minutes of Saturday’s win offered a real glimmer of hope.

I recently touched on Matthews’ shooting woes, while my colleague Dalton Sell also wrote about his wider offensive issues, but in a four-minute burst to close the game, perhaps the veteran found something that can help him snap out of his slump.

Matthews knocked down three triples as the rest of his fellow starters had the chance to put their feet up on the bench. That may well suggest that Budenholzer was eager to give Matthews a chance to regain his rhythm, and if that was the plan, it certainly worked.

Fueled by that outburst, Matthews finished with 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field, to go along with his three assists and two rebounds.

Given just how much Matthews has struggled away from Fiserv Forum, simply seeing him make any shots on the road is a welcome sight. Hopefully, the former Marquette standout will only be buoyed on from here.
