1st place: Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton

It may seem like a homer decision to put Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton in first place for the league’s top duos but it only takes a quick glance at the standings to realize that makes complete sense for this season.

Giannis and Khris lead the most dominant team in the NBA and both are thriving statistically in multiple categories. These two players find themselves at the top of my list simply because they have such a great connection, and unlike every other duo on this list have spent multiple seasons together; seven seasons in fact. Giannis has played his entire career with Khris and they have only been able to develop their connection in that time.

The Milwaukee Bucks acquired Khris Middelton in 2013 in a trade, the same season the Bucks drafted Giannis with the 15th overall pick in the first round of the NBA draft, and the rest is history.

In the 2018-2019 season, this duo had many firsts. Giannis won his first league MVP award, was second place in All-Star votes making him team captain, and Khris Middleton was named to his first-ever All-Star game, where he was selected as the first overall reserve by team captain and Bucks teammate, Giannis.

I understand that these things happened last year but they are being repeated, and bettered, this season as well. The Bucks once again find themselves leading the NBA with the best record and have a significant lead over the second-placed Lakers. This current team led by Giannis and Middleton is on pace to be the third team to ever win 70+ games in a season.

In terms of stats these two are leaders as well, Giannis is averaging career highs in points per game with 30, rebounds per game with 13.8 and assists per game with 5.9. All of these stats make him a shoo-in to win his second straight MVP. Now for Middleton, he isn’t the flashiest player but is an elite isolation scorer and has one of the deadliest fadeaways in the league this season.

Overall, the Milwaukee Bucks are easily one of the most fun teams to watch in the NBA and when both Giannis and Khris are on their game, no one can stop them. I can see the Bucks conquering their demons and making the NBA Finals. Hopefully bringing a championship back to the city of Milwaukee at the end of that journey.

Both Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton will take part in the All-Star Game. Additionally, Middleton will be a part of the Sprite Skills Contest on All-Star Saturday Night.
