The Thunder roll on

After going through a tough first month of the season, the Thunder have come together and become one of the biggest surprises in the NBA this year.

Of course, no one doubted the talent, especially that of those veteran pick ups they made over their seismic summer between Danilo Gallinari and Chris Paul. But they’ve been able to tow the line of rebuilding for the future while competing in the present seamlessly in a way that very few other teams have done in recent years.

While both Paul and Gallinari have been able to recapture the magic that made them both special players while staving the injury bug that has dogged them both throughout their respective careers, it’s been second-year guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander that has taken his play to new heights.

The sophomore combo guard has been the shining star for this new era for the Thunder as he’s leading the team in scoring with 19.4 points on .464/.348/.809 shooting splits, along with 6.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists through 58 appearances in his first season in Oklahoma City.

Rounding it all out, it’s very possible that the Thunder may end up having the Sixth Man of the Year in veteran guard Dennis Schröder with the career year he’s enjoying.

That’s a very good core the Thunder have suddenly assembled and while they’ll look to add more building blocks with the arsenal of draft picks they’ve collected, they’re reaping the rewards of competing to the best of their abilities at this stage.
