NBA Draft 2020 Prospect Watch: Saddiq Bey
Fit with the Bucks
There’s plenty of uncertainty surrounding the Bucks, beyond this current hiatus with the 2019-20 NBA season, and the same goes for projecting their depth chart beyond this season.
Of the wings and forwards on the Bucks’ depth chart that are currently under contract or have guaranteed money for next season behind cornerstones such as Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton, it’s only D.J. Wilson and Thanasis Antetokounmpo. Along with that, Sterling Brown will be a restricted free agent and Wesley Matthews has a player option in his veteran minimum contract.
From that standpoint, the Bucks’ supporting pieces around their core could look very different whenever next season is played. Not only is the need there to restock up those areas of their roster, but with limited resources available as the Bucks will very likely be a tax team when all is said and done, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them target a versatile wing/forward through the draft this year.
Of course, Bey certainly fits that bill to a T and he offers up the many qualities and attributes that have been consistent with what Bucks general manager Jon Horst has targeted through the draft over his tenure.
Certainly the prospect of adding someone of Bey’s shooting ability checks off that prerequisite to fit within this Bucks team and the way they’ve built their roster under head coach Mike Budenholzer. And who can forget the last time the Bucks held a first round pick in the draft, they ended up selecting Donte DiVincenzo 17th overall from Bey’s alma mater.
The obvious question beyond whether Bey ultimately sticks out the draft process is whether he will be on the board by the time the Bucks will be on the clock, which is slotted for the 20th pick.
