NBA Draft 2020 Prospect Watch: Daniel Oturu
Weaknesses
Of course, the big question for any center prospect like Oturu is how will his game translate to the next level.
Offensively, the 20-year-old has shown a budding ability to hit shots from distance as he went 19-for-52 from beyond the arc as a sophomore, good for 36.5 percent. And with an improved efficiency from the free throw line year over year (61.5 percent as a freshman to 70.7 percent as a sophomore), Oturu’s well on his way in possessing the foundation to a viable shot that could potentially hold up on a higher volume and in spot up situations.
The one area of Oturu’s offensive game that needs developing is his ability to find open shooters or simply keep the ball moving in the flow of his team’s offense. Over his two years in the Twin Cities, Oturu just recorded 53 assists and posted a 0.37 assist-to-turnover ratio over that span.
The defensive side of the ball certainly stands as a more immediate area of concern for Oturu to tackle as it relates to finding his footing straight away from the jump.
No one can knock the shot blocking prowess and overall rim protection the 6’10” big man can provide to any team regardless of any level, but the defensive structure and scheme the team he lands with will be important to his ability to adjust to the NBA in this regard.
