Fit with the Bucks

As we’ve discussed with previous wing prospects for this draft class, the Bucks will likely be in the need of some wing help whenever the offseason begins.

Considering the limited resources they have available to them likely before going into the tax, the number of free agents such as Sterling Brown, Pat Connaughton, Kyle Korver, and Wesley Matthews‘ player option hanging in the air, there’s a strong possibility the Bucks’ wing crop looks a lot different next season. Again, whenever that will begin.

Of course, there’s no better way to address that spot on the depth chart than through the draft with a cost-controlled asset and based on current projections, Nesmith may be had within range of where the Bucks are selecting in the first round with the 20th overall pick.

Whether Nesmith will be on the Bucks’ radar is another question entirely but his shooting ability should make for an interesting case for a Bucks team that surely likes to let it fly like other 3-point happy teams around the league.

Despite their high volume and the number of veteran sharpshooters they brought in last offseason, Milwaukee’s total 3-point efficiency has been middle of the road over the last two seasons. Provided that Nesmith’s elite shooting ability translates to the level he showed in his brief sophomore campaign or somewhere near it, Nesmith can help the Bucks go from a good shooting team to a great one.

And while the rest of Nesmith’s game pales in comparison to his extraordinary shooting capabilities, the physical tools and overall sturdiness he provides defensively does give him the potential of being a solid two-way player in time.

Given that Nesmith graduated from the same high school as Bucks All-Star swingman Khris Middleton, who Nemsith views as a mentor, perhaps they will become teammates in several months time when the draft does occur.
