Milwaukee Bucks NBA Draft Prospect Watch: Robert Woodard II – Weaknesses

While Woodard is quite the physical specimen, there are some concerns in regard to his skill level that will certainly influence whether he’ll be able to maximize his potential in the NBA.

The biggest question surrounding Woodard revolves around his shooting stroke and 3-point prowess, which is very much a work in progress. Over his two seasons at Mississippi State, Woodard shot 42-for-114 from 3-point range, good for 36.8 percent.

Despite the low volume of attempts, that points to Woodard being a capable shooter. However, his efficiency from the free throw line tells a different story as he connected on 61.7 percent of his 128 free throw attempts over that span. And judging by his shooting form, the mechanical nature of his stroke is one that NBA teams will hope is eventually ironed out through muscle memory and plenty of repetitions.

What’s more in question is Woodard’s ability to handle the ball or even take on some level of playmaking responsibilities. That’s certainly evidenced by the fact that Woodard compiled just 65 total assists and a 0.81 assist-to-turnover ratio during his time in Starkville.

As a result, Woodard’s feel for the game and lack of shot creation ability is a big impediment with filling out his all-around game. Of course, there’s always the possibility that Woodard develops his handle and or make capable passes in some flashes.
