Milwaukee Bucks: 4 replacement players they could look to from Wisconsin Herd – Jemerrio Jones
For the sake of full disclosure, I debated including Luke Maye at this spot. Standing as a stretch-4 who plugs in the gaps with his sturdy team defending, the former Tar Heel averaged 10.7 points per game while hitting 35.1 percent of his triples for his rookie season with the Herd this year.
However, the Bucks are well-equipped with veterans Ersan Ilyasova and Marvin Williams serving as floor spacing forwards behind superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo. If the Bucks were in need of a different element in the frontcourt, then Jemerrio Jones could give the Bucks a little bit of a grit and tenacity.
There’s a reason why Jones has embraced the ‘Baby Rodman’ moniker as his brand of dirty work, hustle and incredibly strong nose for the ball led to him collecting the third-highest amount of rebounds this season. And with his ability to rack up countless boards on a given night, Jones has developed into a solid passer when pushing the tempo and finding cutters on the break, all while essentially playing as a small-ball center for the Herd.
Of course, Jones comes with one significant deficiency and that’s his lack of range shooting. And even playing for a Herd team that jacked plenty of threes, Jones was largely a non-shooter by attempting 78 total threes for the year as well as going 6-for-28 on his corner three attempts (21.4 percent) and shooting 55.8 percent of his free throw attempts.
Jones’ lack of floor spacing is certainly tough to get around. But the workhorse that Jones is and his penchant of doing all of the little things makes him a good option that could give the Bucks a little more edge, that is if they want that.
