Milwaukee Bucks: In search of the best Bucks player nicknames – Bob Dandridge
Whether it’s playing an integral role on the Bucks’ title winning squad in 1970-71 or playing the most minutes in the team’s existence, Bob Dandridge has been immortalized in Bucks history since the organization retired his No. 10 jersey back in March 2015.
But mention Dandridge’s name and his memorable ‘The Greyhound’ nickname is only sure to follow. As Dandridge recalled to Charles F. Gardner of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in May of 2011, ‘The Greyhound’ was a Doucette original and it all stemmed from Dandridge’s endless activity all over the floor:
"“I was getting up and down the floor,” Dandridge recalled. “I was able to come up with a lot of steals; I was constantly moving. “That’s how that name came.”"
It was Dandridge’s speed, smooth scoring and nose for the ball that made him such an essential contributor to the Bucks’ early glory days to complement the likes of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Oscar Robertson.
The constant roving, movement and versatility that Dandridge offered proved to be the underlying trademark to those Bucks teams headlined by his Hall of Fame counterparts and helped the franchise reach the pinnacle of success just three years into their existence.
