Milwaukee Bucks: In search of the best Bucks player nicknames – Flynn Robinson

Flynn Robinson falls short of just being an original Buck, given that he was acquired 17 games into their expansion season in 1968-69. However, Robinson gave the Bucks an instant credibility for the fledgling upstart squad under first-year head coach Costello.

Robinson immediately entered the fold and became a 20-point per game scorer for the Bucks as they struggled to earn wins throughout the first season and formed a sharpshooting backcourt with Jon McGlocklin.

That led to Doucette calling Robinson ‘The Electric Eye’ for his sharpshooting and scoring prowess, a nickname that Robinson’s teammate, Bob Dandridge, said he approved of after his death in 2013:

"“Everybody that ever played with him remembers him as the Electric Eye,” Dandridge said. “He had a passion for basketball and he loved to score. He enjoyed his time in Milwaukee. “It was the first team he was on where he was the man. Everybody wants that in their career and he found that in Milwaukee. He created acceptance and excitement in the community. He was the man for a year or two.”"

It was Robinson’s lone year playing alongside Dandridge and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar where he maintained his high-level scoring, all of which led to the lone All-Star appearance of his eight-year career in 1969-70.

While Robinson departed the organization after being dealt to the Cincinnati Royals in the Oscar Robertson trade, Robinson still managed to win an NBA championship in 1971-72 as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers.
