Milwaukee Bucks: Revisiting Sterling Brown’s 2019-20 season so far – One big question moving forward
While Brown and the rest of the Bucks get ready for the season restart in Orlando, the question of whether the third-year wing will be able to salvage his struggles is on the minds of many Bucks fans at this point.
That isn’t to say Brown certainly won’t get a shot for playing time, as Budenholzer has always been keen to rely on the team’s depth and deploy a deep rotation. That certainly won’t change once the Bucks season restarts in less than a couple of weeks and the Bucks tune up back into their elite rhythm.
However, the likes of Pat Connaughton, Donte DiVincenzo, Kyle Korver and Wesley Matthews have all managed to enjoy solid to great seasons and that, along with the competition for minutes, makes the challenge for Brown to see the floor regularly that much harder going into the restart.
Between Brown’s tenacity and hard-nosed tendencies, what he brings to the floor isn’t easily replicated nor are players eager to seek the very things that Brown is willing do and bring to help the Bucks.
Yet Brown’s concerning step back in what had been promising areas of his game have obviously opened the door for the likes of DiVincenzo and Connaughton to thrive and gain the trust of the reigning NBA Coach of the Year on par with the Bucks’ stable, veteran wings in Korver and Matthews.
Given that Brown is soon to enter restricted free agency, the timing of his third-year struggles couldn’t have been more detrimental. And while there’s still more time to salvage what’s left this season, getting the opportunity to do so may prove to be the biggest challenge immediately ahead.
