Milwaukee Bucks: Revisiting Ersan Ilyasova’s 2019-20 season so far – One big question moving forward
Without a doubt, forecasting what kind of role Ilyasova plays moving forward, especially with Williams in the mix, is the biggest question facing Ilyasova as the Bucks are set to resume their chase for a championship.
That, of course, couldn’t come under a more surreal and unprecedented set of circumstances.
And given that Ilyasova had essentially enjoyed a minimal break when returning to Milwaukee and fulfilling his national team duties for Turkey in the run up and during the FIBA World Cup last year, this unforeseen break certainly gave the 32-year-old a chance to recharge that wouldn’t have been afforded to him previously.
As much as the chance to rest and recharge will benefit Ilyasova in the long run, Williams’ presence essentially serves as a reminder of the role that Ilyasova had lost before the season was paused.
Budenholzer certainly deploys a deep rotation and it’s fair to expect that won’t change going into the restart and even when the Bucks reach the playoffs. But what we saw of Ilyasova’s role before the break may be in place going into the restart, provided that Williams battles through the early struggles he had experienced upon entering the rotation.
Of course, we can’t help but speculate on that topic, but it may be up to Ilyasova to prove that he’s capable of providing a similar presence to what he occupied for the Bucks earlier in the season, long before Williams had arrived.
