Takeaways from Milwaukee Bucks’ 113-92 scrimmage victory over Spurs – Getting by with some help from friends

Even while the Bucks were without one of their core starting pieces, Antetokounmpo had plenty of support from both his All-Star teammate in Khris Middleton and fellow seven-footer, Brook Lopez.

Starting with Middleton, the two-time All-Star was one of multiple Bucks players to get off to a slow start as he struggled to find the bottom of the net for much of the first half. That wasn’t the case following the halftime break as Middleton earned a few consecutive trips to the free throw line to get into double digits and eventually break his slump.

While Middleton can surely improve his shot and will look to get back into the 50-40-90 rhythm he reached for the season, his playmaking and handling of the Bucks’ offense was absolutely sensational throughout his 21-and-a half minutes on the floor. And it was the pick-and-roll chemistry between Antetokounmpo and Middleton that was very palpable and only led to easy buckets for the leading superstar.

Middleton went on to finish with 16 points on 12 shots (1-for-6 from three, 7-for-7 from the free throw line), five assists, three rebounds, two steals and a turnover on the day.

Lopez, meanwhile, was ever impressive as the Bucks’ man in the middle on both ends of the floor.

It certainly was refreshing to see Lopez stroke it from long range as he knocked in all three of his attempts from that range of the floor. When Lopez wasn’t spotting up from the 3-point line, Bucks players were eager to throw the ball down to the veteran big man to take advantage of mismatches and Lopez promptly thrived under those situations.

Defensively, Lopez was the same disruptor as he’s been throughout the season as he got his hands on a pair of blocks and even forced a couple of steals as well.

The 32-year-old posted 17 points on seven shots (3-for-3 from downtown, 2-of-2 from the free throw line), four rebounds, two steals, two blocks, two turnovers, and an assist in nearly 18 minutes of run,
