Milwaukee Bucks takeaways from scrimmage win over Sacramento Kings – Veteran role players thriving
As one of the oldest teams in the NBA, and a group that had a deep playoff run last year followed up by five players representing their national teams at the FIBA World Cup, it’s certainly fair to say the Bucks stood to benefit from a chance to rest in the last few months more than some other teams around the league.
That was evident on Saturday as not only did the Bucks look to be in a good place and making real progress in their return, but some of the team’s more experienced role players looked particularly sharp in the process too.
Kyle Korver led all scorers with a dazzling shooting performance, scoring 22 points in 24 minutes on 8-of-14 from the field and 5-of-8 from deep. Korver ran off of screens as if in mid-season form, looking equally comfortable in the midrange and beyond the arc.
Marvin Williams also put in a striking performance as he, again, dived on the floor for every loose ball, while also contributing seven points, six rebounds, and four assists.
Robin Lopez proved that the Disney effect is extending to both brothers by going a perfect 4-of-4 from the field, including a pair of triples and the accompanying tea-sipping celebrations.
And perhaps most importantly of all, starting shooting guard Wesley Matthews was dialed in from deep as he went 3-of-6 on his long range attempts, while Sixth Man George Hill dished out an impressive 10 assists to just a single turnover.
With another game still to play before the season resumes for real, the Bucks have every reason to be pleased with their preparations so far.
