Milwaukee Bucks: Will lack of fans affect players in Orlando? – Lacking adrenaline rush

The lack of fans could also lead to less energy distributed into the players’ performances. Or at least not the same kind of bursts, as athletes often mention how they feed off the crowd’s energy.

Los Angeles Times writer, David Wharton also wrote in the aforementioned article that other professional sporting athletes are asking for crowd noise to be pumped in to the fan-less environment, in order to boost their energy.

These players are used to getting external gratification for every play they make or don’t make. They are also used to feeding off the energy of the crowd, both positive or negative.

Another great example of this comes from Boston Celtics Point Guard, Brad Wanamaker, who noted in an article written by Nick Goss of NBC Sports Boston.

"“It was definitely different. You couldn’t get hyped for certain plays as you usually get. The energy was different in the crowd. Your own energy you have to bring. We’re human — you’re not always up to par to playing in the games sometimes and you need little things to get you going. Sometimes the fans help out with that. Here it’s got to be your teammates that you lean on more.”"

By not having that added energy, NBA players’ performance could plummet in crunch time. This could suggest that major fourth quarter comebacks or dramatic swings on the scoreboard could be rarer than usual during the playoffs.
