Milwaukee Bucks: 3 things to watch for vs. Toronto Raptors in Orlando – The rule of threes

While Monday evening will feature the NBA’s two best defenses going at each other, on top of the brewing rivalry between the two sides, they couldn’t operate further from one another on that end of the floor.

With that said, both the Bucks and the Raptors come with similar structural weaknesses in how they defend the 3-point line in their respective manners. After all, it’s the Bucks and the Raptors that allow the most 3-point attempts to their opponents this season.

But while Toronto has allowed the second-most amount of threes, their opponents have hit a league-worst 33.5 3-point percentage this season. It’s easy to see as their structured chaos and the mayhem they work to create on the perimeter leads to plenty of hurried 3-point attempts, something the Bucks know very well about from experience.

Milwaukee’s opponents, meanwhile, hover around league-average where they’ve hit 35.6 percent and the Bucks’ 3-point defense continue to be a source of discussion throughout their ups and downs in Orlando so far.

For the Bucks, the key in being able to take advantage of the Raptors’ highly aggressive defending requires plenty of poise and making a number of incisive passes to generate quality shots in the face of that pressure. Of course, the Bucks will have to improve on their pedestrian 3-point shooting so far in Orlando, which comes in at 33.2 percent, to withstand Toronto’s hot shooting so far from three (38.1 percent).

As is largely the case, whoever ends up with the better 3-point outing will have the upper hand in taking the contest.
