A guide to surviving through Giannis Antetokounmpo rumors this offseason – Getting down to the obvious

Let’s get the obvious out of the way: all 29 other NBA teams covet Antetokounmpo if he goes through with hitting free agency next offseason. Citing anonymous quotes from rival league executives in various reports simply doesn’t make that a revelation.

While that may be so, only a select few both stand in a good position to carve out the necessary cap space in potentially luring away Antetokounmpo while offering a landing spot that can potentially compete for titles beyond 2021. We all know who those teams are, whether it’s the Miami Heat, Dallas Mavericks or the Toronto Raptors, just to name a few.

All of that doesn’t dispute the fact that the Bucks remain in good position to compete for a title next season. At the same time, they could be in a better position to achieve such a goal in an Eastern Conference that remains exceptionally top heavy, and the benefit of the doubt will be given to the Brooklyn Nets entering that equation with Kevin Durant on the mend from his Achilles injury.

However, the Bucks’ search for any roster upgrades, as well as just filling out their depth chart and wit very few avenues to do so once free agency hits, makes any course of retooling their roster for the better a challenging proposition going into next season.

The pressure is clearly on the front office and the organization to make any potential moves to bring them closer toward reaching the NBA Finals and winning a title.

At this point, there can be no more half measures and after making a very high-profile act of ducking the luxury tax last summer, it’s on Bucks ownership to spend and spend big if they truly want to win. Even in this very uncertain financial climate and not knowing what the 2020-21 season looks like.

Winning and winning big will be the cure-all to the mounting pressure heaped on the organization at the moment. That is much easier said than done, of course.
