Milwaukee Bucks: 5 veteran guards that could be trade targets
Milwaukee Bucks: 5 veteran guards that could be trade targets – Spencer Dinwiddie
As the Brooklyn Nets look to take their step towards title contention next season, they have some interesting trade chips to cash in, such as guard Spencer Dinwiddie.
Brian Lewis of the New York Post wrote back in March that Dinwiddie is expected to be in demand this offseason and is owed $23.7 million over the next two seasons, though holds a player option for the 2021-22 season.
Now coming off a campaign where he averaged a career-high 20.6 points per game, though on a .415/.308/.778 slash line, 6.8 assists per game and a 29.1 usage percentage, Dinwiddie won’t have nearly the same level of role he had this season. Not with Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Caris LeVert in the mix as leading focal points as well.
Between the skill and reliability he brings on the ball, Dinwiddie provides the skill set and playmaking that the Bucks will want to add around Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez. And not for nothing, Dinwiddie shot 37.3 percent on his catch-and-shoot attempts during the regular season, per NBA.com/stats.
But unlike previous trade scenarios, the Bucks would be able to generate some cap room for a straight up Dinwiddie-for-Bledsoe swap, along offering up draft compensation. The question then obviously becomes whether Bledsoe would be an enticing option for the Nets and there’s obviously a lot of skepticism on that front.
On one hand, the presence of Durant and Irving and even LeVert puts Bledsoe in more of the defensive-minded role as a combo guard that is most optimal for him at this stage, given his playoff struggles. On the other hand, the Nets’ ceiling would be limited and they are locking themselves into a very veteran-laden and experienced core under first-year head coach Steve Nash.
The Nets may certainly target experience around Durant and Irving in any trade talks they have this offseason, but more size, shooting and versatility may be needed to fill out that supporting cast. And Bledsoe’s playoff struggles rear their ugly head for any team that holds championship aspirations as Brooklyn does.
