Milwaukee Bucks: Buy or sell on Kyle Korver in free agency – What to sell

Kyle Korver is not going to be getting any younger. At 39 years old, the veteran was by far the oldest player on the Milwaukee Bucks’ roster this season, and he will cross over into 40-year-old territory next March.

Age aside, the most apparent knock on Korver’s game is his presence on the defensive end, which has been a recurring theme throughout his 17-year-career. However, as Behind the Buck Pass’ own Jordan Treske pointed out earlier this season, Korver’s defensive contributions are not as abysmal as some make them out to be. He will not get any All-Defensive nods because of his efforts, but that is not why the Bucks brought him in.

Still, in particular matchups, such as the second-round series against the Miami Heat, Korver’s mediocre presence on defense made him the odd man out, despite his 3-point excellence. After averaging 15.0 minutes across four games in round one against the Orlando Magic, Korver’s minutes regressed to just 8.4 over five games against the Heat, as he was simply unplayable at times because of the matchups.

For a team that preaches the importance of defense as much as it does 3-point shooting, perhaps the Bucks might look to go in a different direction. That might include giving second-year guard Donte DiVincenzo a more prominent role as he showed tremendous two-way potential periodically throughout the season. Another route could be targeting a defensive-minded wing in free agency or even in the upcoming draft.
