Milwaukee Bucks: Buy or sell on Pat Connaughton in free agency – What to buy

Energy is the most prominent incentive in retaining Pat Connaughton from the Milwaukee Bucks’ side of things. As previously mentioned, the guard is not going to stuff the stat sheet nightly, but he will provide a zestful presence both when he checks into the game or when he is spectating from the sidelines.

When he is on the court, Connaughton is looking to do all of the little things for the Bucks. Not being a score-first guard, Pat is diving on loose balls, finding the open man, contesting shots, and hoisting the sometimes too often 3-point shot. He is essentially Milwaukee’s utility man, versatile in the sense that he can do some of everything.

Another significant bonus is the guard’s desire to remain with the franchise on a potential team-friendly deal. As Connaughton stated in an interview with Michael Pina over at SB Nation earlier this year, the guard would love to stay with the Milwaukee Bucks:

"“I want to continue to be part of the Milwaukee Bucks as a championship contender, and I want to continue to help my team eventually win a championship, two, three, four, whatever it is. What my contract looks like while I’m doing that? If it was more money and more guaranteed years, absolutely, I’d love that. But as long as I’m here, as long as I’m playing, as long as I’m doing my job to continue to be an NBA player, a dream that I wanted to accomplish since I was a kid, it’s quite possible I make more money outside of basketball than I do in basketball when it’s all said and done.”"

Serving as a Swiss Army knife off of the team’s bench for two seasons now, his familiarity with the organization makes him a compelling case heading into unrestricted free agency.
