Milwaukee Bucks: To buy or sell on Wesley Matthews in free agency – What to sell

Wesley Matthews proved to be a fantastic fit in the Milwaukee Bucks’ starting lineup this season, checking nearly all of the boxes. Still, there are a few specific areas to pick at, particularly from 3-point territory.

As previously mentioned, Matthews shot 36.4 percent from deep on the season. While the guard’s floor spacing capabilities were essential, that mark was the third-lowest percentage over his eleven-year career. Always being known as a streaky shooter, it was very evident throughout his first season with the Bucks as his monthly 3-point percentages lack any consistency.

  • October – 32.1 percent
  • November – 42.4 percent
  • December – 36.0 percent
  • January – 32.7 percent
  • February – 41.7 percent
  • March – 25.8 percent
  • July (one game) – 33.3 percent
  • August – 44.5 percent

This trend continued in the postseason as Matthews shot 44.2 percent from deep in five games against the Orlando Magic, but then a measly 31.7 percent against the Miami Heat in the same amount of games.

Overall, while Matthews’ shooting stroke was welcoming, the inconsistencies were more than apparent. A career 38.1 percent 3-point shooter on 5.5 attempts per game, the 33-year-old had a slight down year shooting the ball, despite shooting the second-fewest attempts from deep in a season in his career.
