Milwaukee Bucks 2020 NBA Draft: What the experts say about Cassius Winston

ESPN [$] (Jonathan Givony): 30th

The Athletic [$] (Sam Vecenie): 32nd

Sports Illustrated (Jeremy Woo): 41st

Bleacher Report (Jonathan Wassermann): 28th

The Ringer (Kevin O’Connor): 41st

Quotes:

Having ranked him 41st on his most recent Big Board, Woo outlined the kind of role Winston will potentially hold at the NBA level and the hurdles he will have to overcome as well:

"“Winston has undeniable chops as a floor leader, and the hope is that he’ll return closer to his sparkling junior year form moving forward. His body type (and how well it will hold up in the NBA) continues to be an impediment for some scouts, but he’s a great decision-maker and situational scorer with a knack for making positive things happen. Winston profiles well as a backup point guard, but he’s likely to get picked on defensively, and his lack of athletic upside limits the value proposition here. But it won’t be a shocker if he figures out a way to stick as a second-unit playmaker.”"

Wassermann was much bullish on the former Spartan and pointed to Winston’s ball handling, shooting and intangibles for why he could experience at the next level:

"“Age (22) and athletic limitations will likely cause Winston to fall into value-pick territory around the back end of the first round. We’ve seen too many older point guards out of college succeed with skill and IQ, regardless of how much speed or bounce they lack, for him to fall further. Winston’s pick-and-roll play, shooting versatility and intangibles are worth buying anywhere outside the lottery.”"
