Milwaukee Bucks 2020 NBA Draft: Examining Immanuel Quickley’s strengths

It’s quite clear what the biggest asset Quickley brings to an NBA team, with that being his dynamic and very lethal 3-point shooting.

Whether it’s on the move or off the catch, Quickley can rise and fire away in a flash and while his high-level efficiency was helped by his gigantic leap as a sophomore, being able to hit shots in that variety and very efficiently bodes well for his role at the next level.

While that leads off his appeal as a prospect, Quickley’s shooting does carry into the shotmaking he dabbled with at times down in Lexington. Per Synergy Sports’ deep dive on the 21-year-old, Quickley averaged 1.38 points per possession on jumpers within the halfcourt, a number that ranked him in the 99th percentile of players last season.

It may be a stretch to label Quickley as something of a creator, but the threat of his jump shot and his solid first step does help him in being able to attack hard closeouts and relying on his trusty floater to sink shots inside the paint and near the rim. While Quickley isn’t a regularly driver in the paint, he did get to the free throw line plenty last year where he averaged 6.3 free throws per 40 minutes and sank his free throws at a staggering 92.3 percent clip.

On the other side of the ball, Quickley’s speed, quick-twitch reactions and reported 6’10” wingspan is very valuable in his ability to cover and mirror opposing ball handlers and just defend at the point of attack overall.
