Milwaukee Bucks: 3 veteran forwards to target in free agency – Danilo Gallinari

After putting up sensational numbers with the Oklahoma City Thunder this season, Danilo Gallinari is shaping up to be one of the sought after targets on the free agent market this offseason.

In 62 games this season, Gallinari posted stats of 18.7 points on .438/.405/.893 shooting splits, along with 5.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. Typically, a player with numbers like that would be far out of Milwaukee’s price range, but some recent comments the veteran made could change that.

Speaking at Festival Dello Sport in Italy, Gallinari stated that he would prioritize competing for an NBA title over a lucrative paycheck as he weighs his free agent options. For the Bucks, landing the forward would undoubtedly be a needle tipping addition, given his floor spacing capabilities.

On the season, Gallinari shot a stellar 40.5 percent from deep, the third-best mark of his ongoing 11-year career. Taking a closer look, and Gallinari was one of the most prolific and efficient catch-and-shoot 3-point shooters this season as he made 142 catch-and-shoot triples and hit such shots at a 41.8 percent clip, per NBA.com/stats.

The Milwaukee Bucks shot the fourth most catch-and-shoot 3-pointers this season, coming in at 26.0 per game. With Gallinari’s reliance on that aspect of the long ball, he would fit like a glove in Milwaukee’s “let it fly” based system. The veteran is not the most upstanding defender, but his dynamic offense undoubtedly makes up for that shortcoming.

A player of Gallinari’s caliber and services won’t come easy with other contenders likely vying for him and the Bucks will have to offer up their full midlevel exception to get him. That still might not be enough, but Gallinari certainly fits the Bucks’ foundation led by Antetokounmpo on down.
