Milwaukee Bucks: Where does the current point guard rotation stand? – Frank Mason III

Milwaukee’s third-string point guard this season, Frank Mason III, saw little playing time with the team as he played on a two-way deal. Making nine appearances for a total of 118 minutes with the Bucks, the 26-year-old averaged 6.9 points on .451/.286/.588 shooting splits, 3.2 assists, and 2.1 rebounds per game.

The guard spent a majority of the season with Milwaukee’s G-League affiliate, the Wisconsin Herd. It was there that Mason shined, taking home the G-League Most Valuable Player award with averages of 26.4 points on .504/.425/.815 shooting splits, 5.0 assists, and 3.0 rebounds per game in 23 total appearances.

Now, Frank Mason enters restricted free agency, and the Bucks must decide if they wish to match any offer extended towards the guard. Mason showed significant potential periodically throughout the season, especially in the NBA restart, where he reeled off an impressive three-game stretch with an increased opportunity.

  • 8/4 vs. Brooklyn Nets – 18 minutes, 11 points, four assists, two rebounds
  • 8/11 vs. Washington Wizards – 22 minutes, 19 points, six assists, five rebounds
  • 8/13 vs. Memphis Grizzlies – 26 minutes, 18 points, eight assists, four rebounds

Time will tell if Mason’s efforts this season will earn him a new contract, whether that be with the Bucks or elsewhere. With all of the uncertainty surrounding Milwaukee’s point guard rotation, bringing Mason back might be a viable option, especially if he is willing to return on a team-friendly deal.
