Milwaukee Bucks: 5 free agents to target with bi-annual exception – Damyean Dotson
Turning our attention over to a player who has yet to find his place in the league thus far, Damyean Dotson does hold some intrigue as a creative wing who offers up a little defensive tenacity, thanks to his size.
Dotson is coming off a season in which he increasingly fell out of the Knicks’ rotation under interim head coach Mike Miller before the regular season was disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic.
Despite that head scratching move, Dotson has shown flashes of being a viable 3-and-D player over his 3,314 NBA minutes. A career 36.1 percent 3-point shooter, Dotson is at his best hitting triples off the catch. Just last season, Dotson hit 38.9 percent on catch-and-shoot threes under limited rotation minutes.
With that said, Dotson offers up some promise in being able to score with the ball in his hands, whether it’s pulling up from mid-range and putting the ball on the floor and finishing at the cup. The fact that he’s posted a career 2.04 assist-to-turnover ratio over his three NBA season does point to his solid decision making in these kind of situations.
The Bucks were reportedly linked to Doston over the league’s hiatus as a potential free agent suitor this offseason, though time will tell whether that interest still exists from Milwaukee’s perspective.
Additionally, there’s the point that Dotson may be a restricted free agent, provided that New York tenders Dotson his $2 million qualifying offer before the start of free agency. Depending on the decision, Dotson could be a highly sought after free agent from teams trying to find a diamond in the rough.
