Giannis Antetokounmpo: 3 shooters to pair with the MVP in free agency – Davis Bertans
Davis Bertans put himself on the map after a career outing with the Washington Wizards this season and will rightfully earn himself a pay raise in free agency. For a player whose strongest characteristic is his prolific 3-point shooting, the fit next to Antetokounmpo is captivating.
Heaving a whopping 8.7 attempts from behind the arc per game this season, the Latvian sharpshooter connected on an astounding 42.4 percent of those tries. Needless to say, the Bucks wouldn’t have any trouble in asking Bertans to let it fly, given his sharpshooting pedigree and efficiency.
As to where he fits with this current Bucks roster, Bertans could unlock a new facet of Milwaukee’s ability to play small with Antetokounmpo setting up shop at the 5. Putting all of the shooting the Bucks need around Antetokounmpo under such configurations would be aided by somone of Bertans’ caliber.
In an ideal world, Bertans makes plenty of sense for the Bucks to go after in free agency. However a reality check is in store for any Bucks fans hoping the team can actually land Bertans.
Washington has placed a high priority on Bertans in free agency and the biggest resource the Bucks can offer is their $9.2 million mid-level exception and Bertans’ market value will definitely eclipse that. That’s even considering the reporting from Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington that teams have lined up sign-and-trade offers for Bertans, thus driving up his price even further.
There’s no question that the Bucks have prioritized more shooting around their leading superstar. What those shooters look like and how they could be maximized by Antetokounmpo remains to be seen.
