Milwaukee Bucks: 3 teams to monitor leading up to 2020 NBA Draft night – Detroit Pistons

The Bucks may have another trade partner in another central division rival, that being the Detroit Pistons.

A long rebuild is on the way for Detroit and new general manager Troy Weaver. Standing as one of the rare teams that have meaningful cap space this offseason, the roster is pretty bare as far as what the future looks like for the Pistons.

Needless to say, this draft is pretty important for the Pistons as they hold the sixth overall pick. But what they do in free agency or this offseason in general can go in many directions, including  taking on burdensome salaries as ESPN’s Zach Lowe noted in his offseason preview earlier this month:

"“Detroit has telegraphed to other teams that it would rather operate as a dumping ground for unwanted salaries, hoarding picks in the process, sources say.”"

Well, if that isn’t music to the Bucks’ ears, especially as they attempt to offload Eric Bledsoe as his value has plummeted with another terrible postseason run under his belt.

The Pistons have some expendable pieces that could be of interest to the Bucks going into next season, whether it’s veteran point guard Derrick Rose or combo guard Luke Kennard. Kennard may be one to keep an eye on in particular, given the Bucks’ previous interest in the former Blue Devil around last season’s trade deadline.

Whether the Bucks would be interested in both of those players remains to be seen, but the Pistons’ appetite to take on expendable players is a start to make a deal. Still, hurdles remain in seeing a trade work out between both parties.
