Goal no. 2 – Improve finishing around the basket

For as much as being able to space the floor will be key to his offensive role, Wilson’s struggles finishing at the basket has been a steady theme of his NBA career to this point.

Over his sophomore season where he earned the most minutes in any of his three NBA seasons, Wilson converted 56.1 percent of his 66 attempts within the restricted area, per NBA.com/stats.

While Wilson is certainly an athletic figure and can explode up to throw down the occasional slam dunk, the former Wolverine hasn’t put it all together in being able to finish through opponents. Part of that goes to his inclination to shy away from contact, which has long been an issue throughout his development both in the NBA and during his time at Michigan.

That certainly hinders his ability to screen and roll to the rim or even put the ball on the floor and drive the hoop. And given his shooting inconsistencies, it’s certainly hard to distinguish which of Wilson’s skills are best to optimizing his role in an NBA setting. That certainly adds to the intrigue of how he’ll fare in the event he does end up seeing extended minutes under Budenholzer.
