Milwaukee Bucks: 3 goals for Bryn Forbes in 2020-21 season
Goal no. 2 – Address defensive shortcomings
While Forbes’ offensive role and impact is easy to project, the same can’t be said for how affect their defensive standing.
Forbes’ undersized nature and physical deficiencies have been highlighted as major concerns as he’s developed into an NBA rotation player. And the former Spartan is coming off a season in which he logged the worst defensive rating of all Spurs players last season as well as ranked 117th out of 138 shooting guard in ESPN’s DRPM rankings.
Whichever you want to put it, and it’s important to give further context in that San Antonio ranked 24th in defensive efficiency last season, Forbes didn’t do much to help them on that front clearly.
Yes, the Bucks have the defensive infrastructure to at least hide Forbes’ athletic and physical flaws and Forbes has shown the effort and competitiveness to battle on that side of the ball.
But to this point, that hasn’t led to him being a net-neutral defender or cover up his weaknesses and it all adds to the test that the Bucks’ coaching staff has in maintaining their defensive steel with so many additions in the mix.
