The Milwaukee Bucks’ paint production soars against Detroit

While the Bucks’ top-ranked offense has been best defined by their sparkling 3-point shooting all over their roster, they’re certainly at the best when getting downhill and attacking the paint to fully realize their offensive attack.

Through Antetokounmpo and his 43 points Monday night, the Bucks scored a season-high 62 paint points as they ran roughshod through Detroit’s mediocre interior defense. That production carried the Bucks as they collectively found their 3-point stroke before the end of the night after going 14-for-34 from beyond the arc, good for 41.2 percent.

After the game, new Bucks guard Jrue Holiday talked the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Jim Owczarski about how the balance of the Bucks’ offensive attack is made more whole when he and his teammates and getting to the basket as regularly as they did Monday night:

"“In my personal opinion, and I feel like other guys too, I would rather have a layup,” Bucks guard Jrue Holiday said. “I feel like getting to the paint, penetrating, makes it easier for threes when you get in there. We had some wide open shots and we didn’t make the ones in the first half, but I think just getting into the paint – even the way Giannis plays and the way Khris (Middleton) plays. I feel like a lot of Khris’ stuff, when he does stuff, is usually in the mid-post, but a lot of it’s in the paint. “That’s something we definitely focus on in practice and film is being guards that get into the paint and finish and make plays from there.”"

There’s no room for the Bucks to go but down by the numbers in terms of their offensive efficiency. But strengthening their dynamic attack inside the paint can lift them even higher when they’re hitting shots at the rate they have been from beyond the arc and doing so against inferior opponents like the Pistons will help in that regard.
