Third key – The Milwaukee Bucks’ bench continues stepping up

The Bucks have always relied on their strength by numbers over the Mike Budenholzer era. While their reshaped bench unit has been prolific, their contributions collectively have had ups and downs to this point in the Bucks’ run.

But the Bucks’ win over Orlando showed how impactful the Bucks’ bench mob could potentially be as they continue to gain chemistry working with and playing alongside the Bucks’ cornerstones.

Bobby Portis certainly headlined the Bucks’ 53 bench points on Monday night by putting forth a highly efficient 20 points of his own in the win as he continues to fill out his new role with the Bucks. Along with that, Bryn Forbes offered up 14 points and three triples to give a boost from beyond the arc to further bolster the bench’s contributions.

Both Portis and Forbes have found their grooves as the Bucks’ leading bench scorers three weeks into the season and it has strengthened the team’s depth in the process when either one or both or in rhythm with the team’s starters.

Whether this is the start of the Bucks’ bench delivering highly impactful contributions remains to be seen, but it’s good to see what they are all capable of when things are rolling on the right night.
